The SMSL VMV D2R MK2 is an advanced desktop DAC developed for Hi-Fi systems where precise digital-to-analog conversion, low distortion, and connectivity flexibility are among the top priorities.
At the heart of the device is the ROHM BD34302EKV DAC chip, with an optimized analog section that enables an extremely low THD+N of just 0.00013 % (-117 dB) on the balanced output. The dynamic range reaches 123 dB, as does the signal-to-noise ratio on the balanced output.
USB playback uses the XMOS XU-316, a 32-bit asynchronous USB interface that allows playback of PCM content up to 32-bit/768 kHz and native DSD up to DSD512. USB, optical, coaxial and AES/EBU inputs also support MQA decoding, including playback of MQA-CD content.
Special attention is paid to the precision of the digital clock. The D2R MK2 uses SMSL's CK-04 clock processing circuit and a built-in ±5 ppb 10 MHz OCXO oscillator to reduce jitter. An input for an external clock is also available, which enables the integration of the device into even more advanced digital audio systems.
A wide selection of connections includes USB-C, optical, coaxial, AES/EBU and I²S via HDMI, while built-in Bluetooth 5.4 enables convenient wireless playback. LDAC up to 24-bit/96 kHz, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC codecs are supported.
Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs are available for connection to an amplifier or powered speakers. The PRE mode allows you to choose between fixed and variable output levels, so the D2R MK2 can be used as a classic DAC or as a digital preamplifier.
