The SMSL D1 delivers high-quality D/A conversion in an extremely compact package, making it an excellent choice for desktop audio systems and Hi-Fi configurations where a combination of sound quality, simplicity, and small size is important.
At the heart of the device is a ROHM BD34352EKV DAC chip, with a carefully optimized circuit that SMSL claims a THD+N of just 0.00038 % (-108 dB). Dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio are 119 dB, and the analog stereo RCA output provides an output level of 2.0 Vrms.
For connection to a computer, the D1 uses an XMOS XU-316 USB interface with asynchronous transfer. It supports PCM audio resolutions up to 32-bit/768 kHz via USB, as well as DSD512. For connecting to a TV, CD transport, streamer, and other digital sources, optical and coaxial S/PDIF inputs with support for up to 24-bit/192 kHz are available.
A particular advantage of the D1 model is its convenient power supply. The built-in power filtering system allows for optimal performance even when powered via USB, without the need for a large external power supply. The device consumes less than 5 W, or less than 0.1 W in standby mode.
